Under 9 Match report 26th June

Woodbridge: 1
South Hobart: 0
"It's not so important who starts the game but who finishes it."
John Wooden

This week’s fixture saw the meeting of evenly-matched sides: Woodbridge and South Hobart. Both teams arrived eagerly; determined to give their all in a tight contest which resulted in Woodbridge recording another win by a convincing goal, including some great individual performances.

Unfortunately we were only able to field six players and remained one player short of a full side. However, thanks to Jacob and Alex (two talented South Hobart players, who generously volunteered to play one half of the match each amongst our Woodbridge players) the game was ready to go. Thanks guys!

The first half was deadlocked zero a piece, containing a high-order of defense from each team. Both sides were struggling to find the unity which would see them take an early lead in this match. However, Woodbridge remained proud of their efforts come the half-time break.

The second half seemed to be taking the same path as the first until five minutes into the break following a string of shots and misses, Cadence found the bottom right-hand corner with a great finish. It could have easily been a draw from then on after some great football from South Hobart, but with some help from Sean in goals the game didn’t progress and finished much to the satisfaction from some tired efforts from both ends of the pitch.

This week our captain: Gemma, took charge of her natural defending position proving her strength and determination. Our goal-keeper for the first half: George, helped the team in not conceding a goal as well as using his instincts to clear the ball from every dangerous situation. Tennessee and Finnian played the best to their ability running from one side of the pitch to the other; creating opportunities and maintaining the possession in the midfield. Sean has developed a strong position as goal-keeper for the second week running alongside our experienced goalie: George. Sean saved the game on two occasions, keeping out two accurate shots from the South Hobart attack in addition to his good defending in the first half. Cadence had another good game, adding to his consistent record. Cadence remained the only goal-scorer in the match, leading the attack for Woodbridge.

The game was definitely one to remember with a great team effort from Woodbridge. Well done guys!

Woodbridge Under 9 Platypus V’s Kingborough Lions Green

1 May 2010

Woodbridge 6 Kingborough 0.

What a wonderful win for the under 9 Playpus side. All players were on board for a show of talent and determination.

Lauren took a big hit; what courage and recovery to play again, Jesse hard at the ball and working goals with George; and both players strong on field with George scoring a lovely goal. Cadence was energetic and athletic with a lot of energy and scoring 2 brilliant goals, Finnian edging closer to the goals and refining his game. Sean is a pleasure and seems to love soccer; following the pack, looking for his perfect chance of a touch. Gemma has a solid, powerful kick that will see a very good soccer future for her; she is a natural talent, lucky girl, as is Lauren; awesome soccer gals. Tennessee had a brilliant game scoring a hat trick, a perfect feeling on a perfect day at Woodbridge.

Well done guys, terrific! Playing soccer rules o.k.

Woodbridge: 7 defeated West Hobart: 3

The under 9 team is a really great team. Today we had a win against West Hobart and so much started falling into place. Kade was strong and determined, Gemma, Carla And Lauren all masterfully played in defence, Carla got some good action in the 2nd half and had an injury her 1st big touch for the year. George and Tennessee sharing goals as they did last year proving to be a dynamic duo on fiels George defending so well and Tennessee slipping in a goal. Finian is a game reader in the making, he will be a great mid forward with striking ability. Sean is developing his style I am so curious as to his natural position, time will tell. Gemma and Lauren played so well, and James kicked 6 goals; what a lightning strike he is up there in forward.

It’s a dynamic under 9 team. Go Woodbridge.

A special mention to Kye Cahill an excellent support for the club juniors.
